Acupuncture
This system of healing involves re-balancing the life force (“Qi”) by the insertion of hair-thin needles into points along the energy meridian of the body. Acupuncture is beneficial for pain relief, musculoskeletal complaints, and a variety of acute and chronic conditions.
Chinese Medicine
A 4000 year old traditional healing system, Chinese Medicine acts deeply and powerfully to correct core patterns of disharmony that can be at the root of many, seemingly disparate difficulties. Herbs, acupuncture, bodywork, energy exercises (such as qigong), and other techniques are used to rebalance the body/mind, bringing inner peace and physical vitality.
Energy Medicine
Working within the human energy field, the practitioner helps rectify imbalances that are affecting functioning in the realms of body, mind, and spirit. These techniques are very effective for problems such as chronic pain, headaches, cognitive confusion, detoxifying the energy field, and accelerated healing. Many types of techniques are used including Reiki, Healing Touch, Quantum Healing, Light Language, and Medical Intuition.
Hypnosis
Hypnosis involves the therapist using relaxation and visualization techniques to allow the client to enter into a state of calm and safety. From this safe place, the client is guided to work through various difficult issues including trauma, anxiety, depression, nightmares, pain, etc. This can be a useful adjunct in the treatment of many psychological issues. Past Life Regression is also available. This involves a gently guided journey into “past” experiences which can help elucidate a person’s current dilemmas and allow insight into various concerns.
Massage Therapy
Eastwind Healing Center has practitioners skilled in both Asian and Western styles of bodywork. Massage serves as an excellent modality for releasing the pain and restrictions of acute and chronic injuries, and for maintaining health. Massage also improves circulation and removes toxins from the body.
Types of massage we offer:
- Shiatsu – Shiatsu is a Japanese word meaning “finger pressure.” It is a “hands-on” therapy used both as a complement to conventional medicine and as a preventative, alternative therapy. Shiatsu technique accesses meridian points on the surface of the body for the purposes of correcting imbalances in the tissues, and of maintaining and promoting health. Shiatsu can be done through light clothing, or with the receiver disrobed. It does not use massage oil. Featured in Eastwind Healing Center’s newsletter number 1.
- Seitai Shiatsu Massage - Seitai (“say-tie”) is a specific form of Shiatsu developed by Master Kiyoshi Kato in Osaka, Japan over the past 40 years. It addresses the “whole body” (seitai) with circular rubbing and finger pressure to promote the circulation of blood and lymph, relax the body, create greater spinal mobility, and improve organ function. Seitai Shiatsu’s philosophical and practical context is one in which illness reflects imbalances of the body/mind/spirit.
- Swedish Massage – The most common form of Western massage, Swedish uses a variety of light and deep gliding strokes and percussion. This relaxes muscles by applying pressure to them against deeper muscles and bones. It facilitates blood flow and flushes the tissues of lactic acid, uric acid, and other metabolic wastes. It reduces emotional and physical stress, and is suggested as part of a regular program of stress management. Typically, the receiver is disrobed and is always draped for modesty. The practitioner uses massage oil.
- Heated Stone Massage - This approach has many influences, from Native American healing techniques to the healing traditions of Japan and India. Warmed and placed on the body, stones are a direct source of the elements of the earth and a perfect vehicle for reconnecting to the earth’s deep grounding. Used with massaging strokes, stones invite a spiritual component, and increase circulation and vitality. Heated Stone Massage achieves a deeper sense of relaxation, calms the nervous system, relieves stiff muscles, improves circulation, opens tight joints, energetically grounds to Mother Nature and releases energy blocks. The receiver is disrobed and draped for modesty. The stones are lightly oiled when used in massaging strokes.
- Thai Yoga Massage – This is an ancient healing art that combiners the application of finger and hand pressure to specific pressure points and energy pathways with assisted yogic stretching. This graceful dance of practitioner and recipient balances the body energetically, relaxes muscles, increases circulation, and boosts the immune system. Featured in Eastwind Healing Center’s newsletter number 3.
- Chavutti Thirummal - This is an ancient healing method from South India, rooted in yoga and ayurveda (“chavutti” means foot and leg, and “thirummal” means massage). The practitioner, using a rope for balance, uses her feet to massage the whole body with oil. This powerful practice relaxes muscles, re-aligns the structure, tonifies the organs, detoxifies body tissues, strengthens bones, reduces excess fat, and nourishes the brain and nervous system.
- Chi Nei Tsang – Coming out of the Taoist tradition, Chi Nei Tsang (internal organ qi massage) consists of bodywork treatments and energy exercises to assist in the treatment of acute and chronic illness, as well as for health maintenance. Chi Nei Tsang detoxifies the organs, repositions them if needed, releases trapped emotions from the organs, and aids in personal growth and self-empowerment.
- Neuromuscular Therapy- This is a deep tissue massage techniques that utilizes the practitioner’s skill, anatomical knowledge, and palpatory sensitivity to deactivate painful myofascial trigger points with the aim of improving muscular function and reducing muscular discomfort and pain.
- Qigong Massage- This technique is an ancient and highly effective healing therapy that is at the root of many other forms of eastern massage, such as Dian Xue, Tui Na, and Anmo. Specific acupoints are stimulated and a variety of manipulative techniques are employed to smooth and normalize qi flow in the body with the aim of promoting an experience of balance, comfort, and ease in the receiver.
- Polarity Therapy- This is an energy-based therapy that uses physical contacts and manipulations to enhance and normalize the human biofield. It is based on the Ayurvedic and Yogic subtle body systems, with an emphasis on balancing the various elemental manifestations of human energy processes. It is typically a very grounding, relaxing, and integrating experience for the receiver.
- Zero Balancing – This is a body-mind system of hands-on therapy developed in the 1970s by Fritz Smith, MD. The practitioner uses comfortable finger pressure and gentle traction to engage body structure and body energy. Clients experience deep relaxation, internal organization, and improved function.
Integrative Psychiatry
Eastwind has a psychiatrist who will prescribe and monitor medications, Janeta Fong Tansey MD, PhD. Medications are prescribed only when necessary, and a careful, conservative approach to them is followed. Janeta is also available for evaluation of the appropriateness of certain medications for those individuals desiring a consultation.
Mind/Body Therapy
In this combination of psychotherapy and bodywork, physical and emotional concerns are dealt with as interrelated and intertwined units. The therapist helps the client to experience and understand the unique and dynamic interactions between the mind and the body in order to facilitate healing at a deeper level.
Naturopathy
With the motto “Vis Medicatrix Naturae” (The Healing Power of Nature), traditional Naturopathy utilizes herbs, dietary interventions, bodywork practices, and energywork to address the underlying causes of physical and emotional complaints. The aim is to rebalance the mind/body/spirit, so that innate healing abilities can work naturally and maximally.
Play Therapy
In this non-directive mode of play therapy, the child is offered a safe and consistent environment together with a safe and consistent relationship with the play therapist. All feelings are accepted and are explored symbolically and/or explicitly, depending on how the child or young person is able to use play therapy. Sand tray is an expressive and dynamic play therapy process that is used by children, adolescents, individual adults, couples, families and groups. Meaningful images, dilemmas, fears, hopes, and dreams can be accessed through the sand tray, allowing conscious and unconscious aspects of the psyche to interact.
Psychotherapy
Traditional psychotherapy is used when indicated to assist in cognitive, emotional, and behavioral change.
Reflexology
Reflexology is a scientific art based on zones and reflex areas in the feet and hands which correspond to all parts of the body. Specific manual pressures are applied which result in stress reduction and therefore causes a physiological change in the body. Reflexology eases tension, improves blood and nerve supply, and restores the body to its natural balance. Reflexology isn’t for diagnosis or treatment of a specific condition, however.
Structural Integration (Rolf Method)
A series of bodywork sessions designed to reorganize the fascia (connective tissue) from head to toe, both inside and out. Clients report improved posture, greater flexibility and breathing capacity, correction of prohibitive movement patterns as well as significant changes in emotional outlook and self-awareness.
Authentic Movement
This is a unique approach to self-exploration, self-discovery, and self-expression. It is based on the belief that movement and personal art expression have the power to reveal, heal and transform our bodies and our psyches. Movement and artistic expression act as a mirror, reflecting our physical, emotional and interpersonal concerns. Originally called Movement-In-Depth by its founder, Mary Starks Whitehouse, the method grew from her roots in dance, Jungian studies, and pioneering work in dance/movement therapy.
Bach Flower Essences
Flower essences effect change at the spiritual level, though they are formulated with emotional disturbances in mind. A combination of essences is often used to supplement other forms of treatment, and can make transitions from imbalance to health smoother and gentler.
Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils (EOs) for the maintenance of health and the support of bodily processes to help overcome disease or injury. EOs are the regenerating, oxygenating and immune defense properties of the plants, i.e. their life blood, and are derived from plant parts (seeds, bark, leaves, stems, roots, flowers, fruit, etc.), mostly through the process of steam distillation or cold pressing. They have been used medicinally for thousands of years as evidenced by ancient manuscripts and hieroglyphics; interestingly, there are many references to EOs in the Bible. EOs are used either by inhalation or application to the skin. Care should be taken that EOs are utilized under the supervision of someone trained in their use.
Craniosacral Therapy
This is a light-touch techniques that utilizes the natural healing rhythms of the body. It, in essence, gives the body permission to correct imbalances in structure. Craniosacral therapy is very gentle, but very effective and powerful. We offer both Upledger’s method and Milne’s Visionary Craniosacral Therapy.
Distance Healing
Some of the techniques we use in our practice depend in part on the principle of the non-locality of mind. This principle asserts that mind is present everywhere. As such, treatments can be carried out when the client is somewhere else. Reiki, medical intuition and quantum clearing, and light language can all be done at a distance. Often, a prearranged time is set aside for the client to relax while the practitioner does the work. Phone consultations can also be done.
Dreamwork
Carl Jung’s ideas of dream analysis are used to amplify the meaning of symbols and archetypes encountered in the world of dreams. Metaphors and myths help clients explore the innate wisdom of the unconscious mind in order to understand the ways in which dreams seek to bring us to a heightened sense of our larger selves.
Medical Intuition and Quantum Clearing
Candida and Michael are trained in medical intuition and quantum clearing. Medical intuition allows the practitioner to receive impressions of difficulties in the body and the energy field. Quantum clearing corrects these imbalances at the point where energy becomes matter, effecting deep and lasting results.
Nutrition
Careful and comprehensive assessment identifies areas of nutritional need to restore balance in the body using nourishing foods and supplements. Proper nutrition is foundational to good health.
Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy
A 90 minute session involving assisted yoga postures, non-directive dialogue, breathing and focused awareness, designed to foster personal growth and healing through the release of restrictive physical and emotional patterns.
Reiki
It is our belief that Reiki is one of the basic healing energies. Through its gentle action, the body rejuvenates and clears out blockages. We utilize two lineages of Reiki in our work, the familiar Takata lineage and the deep and powerful Takamori lineage, also known as Reiki Jin Kei Do.
Sound Energy Therapy
These techniques are an extrapolation of Shamanic Sound Healing techniques brought into the modern, secular, therapeutic context. The human voice and various instruments (such as Tibetan singing bowls, tuning forks, didjeridu, rattle and drum) are utilized to bring about positive changes in the body and consciousness of the receiver. The Sound Energy Healing session is an opportunity to explore inner space and the body’s innate wisdom in a healing environment. Sound Energy Healing combines well with the various other forms of energy work offered at Eastwind.
EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique
Sometimes referred to as “emotional acupuncture” and “acupuncture without needles”, EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) involves tapping specific acupuncture points to assist in rebalancing the body’s energy system and improving the individual’s experience of emotional well-being. EFT is a gentle tool that can be used to resolve anxiety, phobias, stress-related disorders, and trauma. Visit eftuniverse.com.for more information.
