Jonathan Railey, M.F.A., M.A. Jonathan holds a Master’s degree in contemplative psychlogy from Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado, and a Master’s of Fine Arts from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. In addition, he has received training in Satir Family Systems therapy, non-directive play therapy, and hypnotherapy. For over a decade, Jonathan has provided support to adults, children, and families in a variety of clinical settings, including private practice, community-based family and marriage therapy, multicultural counseling, adolescent service learning process groups, and inpatient psychiatric counseling. With his writing background, Jonathan’s view of contemplative practice extends to the expressive arts, which, along with body-mind awareness and a multicultural approach, inform his view of psychotherapy.
A long-time practitioner of sitting meditation, Jonathan’s eclectic approach to therapy is largely informed by his attentiveness to the present moment and the therapeutic relationships that unfurl from this space. Jonathan’s work is also concerned with the deep areas of the psyche that sometimes resist easy description. In these instances, a number of Jonathan’s clients choose to incorporate dreamwork, visual arts, journaling, and sandtray therapy in order to more clearly access and articulate their inner experiences and to facilitate a depth of awareness.
Because Jonathan believes in the uniqueness of the therapeutic dyad he develops a separate therapy for each client. This development is anchored to the growing relationship and the client’s evolving needs and insights.
He is also the father of two radiant daughters and views them both as his most profound teachers.
